Speaker : Chris Anderson, Curator, TED
Mes notes sur cette conférence du 10 décembre - certainement l'une des plus intéressantes.
Global IQ
Through the Internet we are building a global brain
How do you define the global brain?
Not by the average intelligence but by the ability of the world to solve its problems- is it higher or lower?
When it comes to brain, size is not everything.
His Fears
Brains can go wrong
Evil just got easier (through web)
20 000 result on how to make an atomic bomb
Easier to make a mess then to clean it up
The nurture of folly
The web gives credibility to "parallel" fake worlds.... e.g. aliveandwell.org denies she has aids but has a credible site… her kid died because of lack of care.
The web is an irresistible distraction
Same number of hours to build the Empire State Building as number of hours on YouTube everyday
What if our appetite for distraction as bad as our appetite for fat and sugar?
But worst of all
Voracious destructive entanglement...
Specifically if managed by experts – shamans!
They themselves don’t know cause vs effect
Same as credits swaps crises
Need to care about simplicity
The Positives
The web is the mother of all libraries
Huge knowledge potential
Knowledge available and easily accessible through Google, Wikipedia, etc.
Mass Collaboration
e.g. Charter for Compassion - people of all nations, all faiths invited to contribute
New breed of Global Celebrity
- Neuroscientists
- Anti-corruption activists
- TED speakers
All are brilliant - sit down for 30 minutes with them and they change your view of the world.
Now all available via TED.com
Being a teacher used to not be paying - today the best teacher can be global rock stars - have their ideas reach millions or become curators.
Great for human potential overall. Great teachers help achieve your full potential.
The question is in the future (10 years) - children on their mobiles, what will they be looking at? Entertainment or learning?
